On the obverse of the 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins is the image of Winged Victory, represented in the Angel of Independence monument, and in the background the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes.  The Winged Victory holds high in her right hand a wreath crown symbolizing the freedom of governance, while the chains in her left hand signify the broken bonds of servitude severed when Mexico earned its independence from Spain.  The inscriptions on this side include 1 Onza, Plata Pura, 1983 Mexico Ley 999, and the mint mark of MO.

The reverse of the Mexican Gold Libertad coin features the coat of arms, surrounded by an upper semicircle with the legend “Estados Unidos Mexicanos”.
