Britannia, the female representation of Britain and the modern face of Bullion since 1987.  Britannia has a long history with Britain and its coinage, she is the embodiment of the nation having represented the country for almost 2,000 years, ever since the Romans invaded the isles and claimed them as the province of Britannia. She first appeared on the Roman coins of Emperor Hadrian circa AD 119 and was revived for the coinage of Charles II in 1672.

When Britannia coins were added to The Royal Mint’s Bullion portfolio in 1987, in response to a growing global Bullion market, Philip Nathan created an interpretation of Britannia that was perfect for the new coins.  He presented the icon with a strong maritime influence, standing windswept in a classical gown, waves at her feet; trident, shield and olive branch in hand – instantly recognizable in an international market, the modern face of British Bullion and a symbol of strength and tradition.

On the obverse of the 1 oz Silver Britannia Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.   Her Majesty has reigned as the Queen of England since 1952 and this is the fifth effigy of her to feature on British coinage. This design was completed by Jody Clark in July 2015 and began to feature on 2016 dated coins from the Royal Mint.  It captures the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the Royal Diadem crown.

The reverse side of 1 oz British Silver Britannia Coins features the Philip Nathan image of Britannia described above.

While the product image lists 2017, the coins in this offering will have a random mint year (our choice).  Please feel free to contact Arch City Bullion with questions.
